Abdominal
Mesothelioma
Abdominal
Mesothelioma is caused when the fine
asbestos fibres find their way into the digestive system
if swallowed. This will affect the protection of the stomach
lining and passage may cause this type of cancer.
Abdominal Mesothelioma is
a cancer affecting the membrane which lines the
abdominal cavity and covers the organs therein. This type of
cancer is called Peritoneal
Mesothelioma, a name derived from the
peritoneum or abdominal lining. Abdominal Mesothelioma is a
type of preventable cancer that is being caused by inhaling the
dust particles of the deadly mineral asbestos.
It is accompanied by
ascites and symptoms include bowel obstruction,
weight loss,
anemia, lower back pain, abdominal pain, edema, fatigue, and
fever. Many of these same symptoms may also be seen in
pericardial manifestations of the disease.
Peritoneal
mesothelioma therefore is caused by
asbestos fiber
that drifts in the air. This could be gathered in workplaces,
industrial sites and even homes. Peritoneal mesothelioma
affects the lining of the abdominal wall, called the
peritoneum. It affects the pericardium, which is the lining of
the heart.
People who are
diagnosed with peritoneal
Abdominal mesothelioma invariably present to
their physician with a large volume of ascites. Patients that
are diagnosed as having this malignant form of cancer are done
so by histological and immunocytochemical studies. When a
patient finally decides to see their physician it is often
times too late. Patients exhibiting these symptoms are usually
scheduled for further examinations to search for other
abdominal mesothelioma signs. If an X-ray or CT scan indicates
signs that the patient indeed may have
abdominal
mesothelioma, a biopsy is conducted,
allowing the physician to determine the malignancy
level.
Asbestos fibers work their way into
the smallest passage ways of the lungs and then into the
pleura. Once there, an unknown chemical reaction causes
cancerous cell
development.
Mesothelioma
affects the protective lining of
the body's internal organs known as the Mesothelium.
When you inhale air containing asbestos particles, the air
directly affects the Mesothelium lining of the body.
Mesothelioma is a rare and lethal form of cancer that occurs in
the mesothelium, a thin layer of specialized cells that lines
the lungs and the abdominal
cavity. In the United States there are fewer
than 2,500 new cases a year. Mesothelioma is still a relatively
rare form of cancer. There are an estimated 2,000 - 3,000 new
cases per year in the United States.
Mesothelioma Peritoneal is a cancer
in the lining that surrounds the stomach or abdomin, called the
peritoneum. The peritoneum are cells that produce a lubricating
fluid that protect the stomach.
